Welcome to the Chairman's Log - This will detail what our Area 51 chairman, Graham Drummond has been up to....

Also, why not check out the pictures in the Gallery and the Events calendar to see what else is happening in Area 51.

Hi Guys,

It’s good to feel that I’m getting back to some sort of normality.

My sincere thanks to those of you who sent their get-well-soon wishes during the last few months whilst I was recovering from illness but especially to Colin, our Regional Rep, for keeping things going in the absence of Graham & I.  To my friends in Airdrie – I have not eaten gammon steak since!

Graham remains stuck down south with work and as soon as the doctor passed me fit enough to return to work part-time at the beginning of January, I decided to get out and about and visit some of the Tables to let you all know that Area 51 is still going strong.

By the time the Area AGM comes round; we hope to have a new Area 51 Website. If your Table has something they want advertised, please let us know and we will put it on the Website. All, keep up the good work and I’ll hopefully see you at the Area AGM.

YIT, Stuart.

24/03/10 – Callander & District RT

I was due to visit the guys in Callander in February but was snowed in and couldn’t manage. After re-arranging the date to March, I was looking forward to the evening but unfortunately took a “relapse” and had to call off again due to illness. Guys, I will see you all soon!

Another end to two hectic but very enjoyable months visiting various Tables and meeting some more new faces in the Area. Next on the agenda is the visit to the Re-Charter of Livingston RT on 1st April.

12/03/10 –Linlithgow RT 55th Charter Dinner

After confirming my attendance, I was asked to sit at the Top Table in the absence of the current Area Chairman although I think  was charged extra for the privilege! The two main speakers were Willie Allan & John O’Neil and we had an entertaining evening with over 100 in attendance and a large number of Linlithgow RT Past Chairman amongst them. Congratulations to Linlithgow RT on reaching their 50th Anniversary.

11/03/10 – Strathaven RT

An excellent turn out for the meeting at which the forthcoming Classic car Show on Sunday 23rd May was the main item on the agenda. Anyone with any sort of classic car can enter online at www.srtclassiccarshow.co.uk. Also discussed was the annual Raft Race at the Strathaven Gala Day, an event not to be missed. On the membership side, Strathaven have inducted 4 new members during 2009/2010 and whilst they had hoped to induct 6 new members during the year, this is still an excellent achievement.

06/03/10 – Airdrie & District RT Ladies Night, Airdire Town Hall

My wife Morag had been asked to say a few words regarding Ladies Circle at this event and since I had attended their previous meeting, I had been asked if I would give a hand to assist with the evening. Upon arriving at the Town Hall, the guys had already set up the bar, decorated the hall and the first ladies had already sat down with their complimentary glass of wine. With Mamma Mia playing on the big screen during the meal, the ladies were in for a good night. Music was supplied by Abbamania before Norbert finished off the evening with the disco and some karaoke. An excellent and very successful evening by the guys from ADRT.

04/03/10 – Lanark & District RT

A well turned out meeting and I was assured that they had all polished their shoes for my visit. A short talk was given by Anita & Elaine of the ‘A’ Team who are part of a Parent Support Group for Children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Chairman Scott then made a Cheque presentation to them. The guys discussed various events up with a Ladies Night on 8th May and a Climb up Ben Nevis the following week. Also in their plans is an entrance to NSW in Lancaster in September whereby they intend to cycle from Lanark to the event. With a potential new member in attendance on the night and another couple in the pipeline, their membership can only get stronger.

20/02/10 – Bo’Ness RT Winter Warmer Concert

After offering to assist with the event at an earlier meeting, I was unsure of what to expect. However, when I arrived, the Hall was already half full with elderly people from around the district. By the time Kinneil Youth Band started up, there were over 100 happy souls sitting being entertained. With a short interval in the middle of the afternoon when soup and tea were served, it was a pleasure to see all the attendees have smiles on their faces. A very well organized afternoon by the guys from Bo’ness with a little help on the day from their wives & partners. And not a zimmer frame left in the hall at the end!
